From fossils, limestone emerges: multivalent and versatile
Sedimentary rock composed of calcite, limestone is characterized by the regular presence of fossils, which lend it a variety of tones and versatility, by adapting to different environments. It is mainly found in the Central region, particularly in the Natural Park of Serra de Aire and Serra dos Candeeiros, considered the major repository of limestone formations in Portugal.
One of the oldest human activities, the art of pottery results from the use of molded clay submitted to high temperatures. In its ancestry, it is associated to artifacts that have been essential in human evolution, namely plates, vases and ceramic pieces in general.
