Schist & Acacia
- North Region
- Studio ANANSI
With a very particular morphology, schist is a rock derived from clays, notable for its marked uniformity due to the tiny grains it is composed of. It is mostly found in the region of Beiras, but also in the area of Valongo and Canelas (in the North region).
Similarly to the stone, wood is a material widely used by man in the course of history. Originating from an invasive species, acacia wood has high durability and resistance, being commonly used in carpentry for the qualities of the dark timber.
Studio ANANSI
Established in 2018 by Evan Jerry, a contemporary artist inspired in his cultural heritage, Studio ANANSI takes its name from a master in the art of storytelling in African folklore. In his work, the artist strives to develop new narratives by means of a sculptural, architectural and at times primal approach.
